About EMU:

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is the only public university located to the North of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. Established in 1979, EMU is the No. 1 ranked university of North Cyprus and among the top 10 across Turkey.

EMU started off as an institute of technology but has now broadened its programmes to just under 100 undergraduate and over 80 postgraduate programmes. EMU offers both English and Turkish teaching, with a majority of the programmes available in the English language. English Degree opportunities can be located in the Engineering, Health Sciences, Media and Communications, Education, Architecture, Business and Economy, Tourism, Medicine, Dentistry, Computing and Technology, Arts and Sciences and Justice Faculties. For students who wish to improve their English, or wish to study in one of the above fields but feel their English is not sufficient, the English Preparatory School at EMU assesses student’s level of English proficiency prior to embarking on their studies and provides the necessary English language education so students are prepared for their educational journey.

EMU Offers Education at International Standards

EMU is a full member of the International Association of Universities, the European University Association, Community of Mediterranean Universities and the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. Giving special importance to international recognition, EMU has received the accreditation of various prominent international accrediting bodies. EMU is one of only five universities in the region to have been awarded the prestigious ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology)  in the field of engineering. Similarly, the EMU Architecture Faculty holds substantial equivalence from NAAB and the MİAK accreditations. Business and Economics Faculty, Tourism Faculty and School of Computing and Technology have been granted the accreditation of FIBAA. The department of English Language Teaching within the Education Faculty is accredited by AQAS. Additionally, the EMU School of Tourism and Hospitality Management gained the accreditation of TEDQUAL and the Computer Technologies and Information Systems offered by the School of Computing and Technology (SCT) successfully passed the ASIIN accreditation process. EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School has successfully obtained the EDEXCEL accreditation and last but not least, our University’s Business and Economics Faculty is a full member of and AACSB.

EMU Offers High Quality and Rich Campus Life

Located in the town of Famagusta, EMU offers accommodation with over 10,000 beds available, and the opportunity to privately rent locally. The campus which boasts 3,500 acres is a mini-city in itself, enclosing within it all the facilities an individual could desire, from a health centre, PDRAM counselling service, 10,000 book library, 35 locations to dine and socialise, supermarkets and its own personal bus system in and out of Famagusta. Students of EMU benefit from a wide variety of sports facilities. A modern stadium with a capacity of 5,000 seats, tartan athletics track, cardio centre, gym, spinning and TRX halls and an open area of 66,500 m2 for sports and closed sports complex with a capacity of 3,500 seats are only some of the facilities from which the 20,000 students across the campus can benefit from. 

The melting pot that is EMU has students deriving from 106 different countries, and this cultural richness is both celebrated and supported by EMU encouraging the existence of student societies for each of the nationalities, where funding, technical support and administrative help is provided for the societies to celebrate special occasions and practice their culture, making EMU a home away from home.

Knowing that any student’s university life must be rich with experiences, EMU holds an annual week-long Spring Festival in May, which comprises of academic talks and panels with special guests, film screenings, theatre shows and art workshops, live music and other entertainment. Throughout the rest of the year, campus activities involve a rock festival, folk music festival, sports competitions, cultural celebrations, talks given by artists, weekly film screenings, a student led radio and television station, and lots of outdoor and indoor sports.

EMU has a highly developed infrastructure, with 1,100 prominent academic staff from 35 different countries. Quality programs in English are provided alongside the opportunity of learning a second foreign language. With international accreditations, an international teaching context, and a diploma recognized throughout the world, EMU prepares its students for their international careers by educating them in becoming creative and competitive individuals with entrepreneurial skills.

Collaborative Program opportunities with prestigious Universities

EMU has collaborative program opportunities with two world leading universities, available to the students of EMU. EMU’s collaboration with University of Bologna, the world’s first university and Times Higher ranked 180th sees an unmissable opportunity to study the Comparative Legal Systems Master’s program, which provides a particular focus on European law and can be applied to a number of backgrounds, including Engineering, Business, Media and Communications, and other areas of interest to tailor any individuals future career aspirations in the direction they wish. Students have the opportunity to be educated by Bologna university professors and receive a degree from Bologna university itself.

EMU’s collaboration with the U.K’s top 10 ranked University of Warwick sees the availability of 2 MSc programs available directly from the EMU campus, taught by Warwick University professors, and with the opportunity to take courses at Warwick University itself, and other WMG offices across the world.

Double Major Opportunities

While giving the students a chance to gain expertise in a specific field, EMU also provides opportunities for development in other areas. Students registered to EMU programs may benefit from double major and minor program applications, with such educational opportunities particularly available in the Engineering departments.

Student Exchange Program Opportunities

At EMU a student exchange program is available with collaborations with prominent institutions, including 28 universities across 20 countries, including U.S.A, Canada, Belgium, Germany, France, South Korea and China.
